My father, Capt. JJ Dwyer, jr., USMC was commandant of the brig some time after he returned from Guadalcanal. When I was born in very late December 1944 we were living at Quarters #9 on Yerba Buena Island and I assume he didn't commute, although I could be wrong, so he probablt lived on Mare Isalnd at some point between 1942 and 1944. As a disabled Vietnam veteran (Agent Orange), I now receive dental care at the V.A. dental clinic on Walnut Avenue on Mare Isalnd and thast has piqued my curiosity about a part of WWII history and my family connection to it. I don't even know but what my parents 'might' have been married in the base chapel, which would have been March 17th, 1943. I see tremendous potential in the repurposing of the many buildings on Mare Island and will pursue finding out more and will see what I can do with limited funds, limited energy and lots of free time. Thank you for what you are doing.
